Itineraries
Day 1
AUCKLAND - WAITOMO - ROTORUA
Travel south to Waitomo Caves for a boat ride under a galaxy of glowworms. Continue on to the thermal activity in Rotorua, steeped in Māori culture and history. Enjoy an evening of powerful cultural performance, storytelling and hangi feasting at Tamaki Māori Village.
Overnight: Rotorua.
Day 2
ROTORUA - TAUPŌ – NAPIER
See roaring geysers, boiling mud pools and Māori arts and crafts. Get up close with kiwi and feed the tame trout. Visit the Agrodome to see sheep shearing and watch dogs at work. This afternoon you have free time at Lake Taupō before travelling on to Napier.
Overnight: Napier.
Day 3
NAPIER - WELLINGTON
Take a wine and food tour of Hawkes Bay, famed for its Art Deco buildings and wine production. Lunch at a winery is included before you head out of the city and on to Wellington.
Overnight: Stay 2 nights in Wellington.
Day 4
AT WELLINGTON
A morning tour of the city will take in the Parliament Buildings, Old St Paul’s Cathedral, Mt Victoria and an optional ride on the cable car. This afternoon is free to enjoy our capital city.
Day 5
WELLINGTON TO NATIONAL PARK*
Board the Northern Explorer Train for the journey to National Park in the centre of the North Island. The afternoon is free to enjoy the scenery and activities on offer with a focus on walking and the outdoors.
Overnight: National Park. *(Please note some days the train will be replaced by an express coach).
Day 6
NATIONAL PARK TO AUCKLAND*
You have free time this morning then continue the journey North to Auckland on the Northern Explorer train or by coach. (Please note some days the train will be replaced by an express coach). Note: Not recommended to start on a Saturday.
